It has been some time since I took a sick day from work, Greta has been sidelined with the serious junk this week, the sinus congestion and such finally caught up to me last night, and I felt today a worthy stay home and rest day. Rest has been good today, Greta is getting her voice back, somewhat, and after getting my fill of restorative sleep this morning, I headed to the gym to try some lap swimming and steam room therapy. In the past this has been a welcome cleansing for me. Definitely not the best time for performance, but it gets the blood flowing and helps open up the airways.
This morning didn’t reflect that perfectly. Let me tell you, when you have post-nasal drip going on, then hyper-ram it down your pipes with heavy breathing and a touch of indoor chlorinated-saline pool air, it burns! Actually, my mile time didn’t seem to suffer, I just felt like throwing up a little toward the end, and the steam room won out afterwards. My ambition was to try and pedal the trike on the trainer this evening as well, but I am leaning towards logic telling me that swimming was enough for me today. Besides, I want to save myself for an outdoor ride tomorrow!
And now, friends, it’s time for some more tea.
