Hello world!
It’s been one crazy fall for us, up past our eyeballs in real estate while I’ve been a part of the non-driving community, trying to line-up everything to get hand-controls.
We’re putting a pause on the real estate stuff until this next spring as we just had our second set of buyers back-out of escrow last minute. Resultant of the first buyers backing out, we lost our escrow on the house we had finally found to purchase (and what we paid for in inspections).
First time buyers love our house, unfortunately this usually means we have offers from people scraping together everything they have and don’t have, to try and purchase, then realizing they’re in over their heads. l have compassion for many of these people, but sadly am unable to extend grace past our current means. So, with no other potentially accessible houses showing up in our budget, we’re taking a much needed break to regroup, rejoin all of you in this life, and get back to our regular routines. I can make do with our current bathroom a little longer and hopefully we’ll have better luck come spring finding our dream longterm house that I can transition to rolling around in.
For now, I’m changing this campaign up a little to reflect our at hand needs. Through our vast searching of the market this fall, we’re going to need to remodel at least a bathroom in most any house we find, but we’ll cross that bridge when it comes. I have dropped my campaign goal to focus solely on helping me rejoin the driving force.
The highlight of this week was being able to bring home a new truck which we’ll get hand controls installed in to be my new work commuter and hauler of all my various sets of wheels to pedal, push, and crank, you know, the things that help me kippitmoving. We did pretty well selling our other vehicle, enough so that we were able to purchase this truck on our own, but could still use a little help with the imminently needed hand controls.
The sad bit about bringing our new truck home is that I can’t drive it yet! I’m still waiting on the process with Oregon Vocational Rehabilitation, and am sadly rehashing some of the progress starting up (again) with my 4th new counselor. I chose to go through vocational rehabilitation to see if they would help fund at least part of the expense of hand controls and hopefully (really crossing everything I have here) they’ll get their stuff together and I can get setup before the end of the year, but I’m loosing my optimism on that front.
If we can raise enough money, I might be able to by-pass the vocational rehab. process and go straight to the provider to get setup and driving again. My new campaign goal is $10,000, of which you extremely generous people have already helped raise $1800! Any money donated will go straight towards the expense of hand controls and a lift (to help load gear in and out of the back). Any left over will roll into a race wheelchair, which I’ll hopefully be granted a chunk to cover, this spring, and a canopy to keep it all dry, safe, and secure.
Thank you all, for your support and I hope to be able to share more with you soon.
